Swiss engineer Ken Pillonel is back with another clever tech innovation. This time, he has created a custom iPhone case that transforms the traditional Lightning port into USB-C, while still supporting advanced features like MagSafe, data transfer, CarPlay, and even 9V fast charging.
Unlike typical adapters, this is a full-fledged hardware conversion packed inside a slim case. Pillonel emphasized that this is not just a DIY hack, but a fully functional USB-C implementation. Impressively, fast charging works regardless of which way the USB-C cable is inserted.
The case also includes a dedicated slot for a second SIM card — a useful feature for frequent travelers — and a built-in strap holder for added convenience.
The case is already available for order, priced between $45 and $55 (around IDR 730,000 to IDR 880,000). Versions are available for most iPhone models that still use the Lightning connector.
Currently, it only comes in dark gray, but Pillonel has confirmed that new color options will launch in September 2025.
Ken Pillonel is no stranger to the tech community. He previously made headlines for modifying AirPods and AirPods Max by replacing their ports with USB-C, and even released commercial cases for them. This latest project aims to make older iPhones more compatible with modern accessories — and save users from carrying extra cables or dongles.
