Alberto Puig Praises Marc Marquez’s Brilliance: “Ducati Is Lucky to Have a Rider Like Him”

Alberto Puig Praises Marc Marquez’s Brilliance: “Ducati Is Lucky to Have a Rider Like Him”

Honda MotoGP team boss Alberto Puig believes Ducati is truly lucky to have Marc Marquez leading their charge in the 2025 season. According to Puig, Marquez’s incredible dominance has made this year unforgettable for the Italian manufacturer.

At 32 years old, Marc Marquez has claimed 11 Grand Prix victories and 14 sprint race wins, securing the 2025 MotoGP World Championship with five rounds remaining at the Japanese Grand Prix.
This achievement marks Marquez’s seventh world title overall and his first championship in six years, while also becoming Ducati’s fourth title in MotoGP history.

Despite Marquez’s dominance, Puig points out that Ducati’s factory bike, the GP25, hasn’t been a massive upgrade compared to previous years—evident from Pecco Bagnaia’s struggles throughout the season to adapt to the new machine.

Puig, who worked closely with Marquez during his Honda years that brought six world titles, deeply respects the Spaniard’s journey after facing serious injuries since 2020.

“No one deserves the title more than Marc,” Puig said in an interview with the official MotoGP website.

“After everything he went through—all the pain, the suffering, the frustration—he chose his own path, and it proved to be the right one.”

Puig also praised Marquez’s bold decision to leave Honda in 2023 and join Ducati’s satellite team in 2024, calling it a turning point for both the rider and the manufacturer.

“He proved that his decision was right. And you could also say Ducati was lucky to have him win so many races,” Puig added.

Many have compared Marquez’s 2025 campaign to his 2019 championship season, when he won 12 races and finished on the podium in all but one of the 19 rounds with a less-favored Honda.

For Puig, “the result in 2019 was incredible. The combination of that bike and that rider was a true weapon, and that’s why he dominated.”

Unfortunately, Marquez will miss the next two rounds—Australia and Malaysia—after suffering a shoulder injury during a crash at the Indonesian Grand Prix.

Initially, doctors decided to let it heal naturally, but after a reassessment, surgery became necessary this week.

The operation was successful, but Ducati has not yet confirmed a recovery timeline.
MotoGP fans around the world are now eagerly waiting for the seven-time world champion to return to the track and continue his remarkable run.
