| Finally Uncovered: Sexual Abuse Case in Gorontalo Leads to Arrest After Victim Finds the Courage to Speak Up. |
A heartbreaking sexual abuse case involving a minor in Gorontalo City has finally come to light. A 26-year-old man, identified by the initials MA, has officially been named a suspect by the police after the victim’s family came forward with a formal report.
The case began to unfold in January 2025, when the victim’s older sibling reported the incident to authorities. At the time the abuse happened, the victim was only 14 years old, an age where a child should feel safe, protected, and free from fear.
After receiving the report, police moved quickly. Investigators carried out a series of steps, including questioning witnesses, collecting evidence, and working with professional experts to make sure the case was handled carefully and thoroughly.
Once enough evidence had been gathered, MA was summoned for questioning. Based on the results of the investigation, police found strong indications of a criminal act. Without delay, MA was officially declared a suspect and is now being held in detention while the legal process continues.
Investigators revealed that the abuse occurred twice, both times at the victim’s home. The incidents reportedly took place in December 2022 and January 2023. For more than two years, the victim kept the painful experience to herself before finally finding the strength to tell her family.
It was this brave confession that ultimately opened the door to justice. After hearing the victim’s story, the family immediately reported the case to the police so the suspect could be processed under the law.
MA is now facing serious charges under Indonesia’s Child Protection Law. If found guilty, he could face a minimum prison sentence of five years and a maximum of 15 years behind bars.
Police are also urging the public to stay alert and continue to protect children in their surroundings. Parents, in particular, are asked to pay close attention to changes in their children’s behavior, as victims of sexual abuse often remain silent out of fear or shame.
Anyone who witnesses, hears about, or experiences actions that may indicate sexual violence is encouraged to report it immediately to the nearest police station. The faster a report is made, the faster authorities can take action.
This case serves as a powerful reminder that a victim’s courage to speak out can stop abuse and bring perpetrators to justice. Protecting children is not only the responsibility of law enforcement, but also of families, communities, and society as a whole.
