Shocking news emerges from the family of the Duchess of Sussex. Thomas Markle, Meghan Markle’s estranged father, is reportedly in intensive care after undergoing a major surgery to amputate his left leg. The procedure was performed to address a severe blood clot that posed a life-threatening risk.
According to DailyMail.com, Thomas’ condition worsened suddenly. His son, Thomas Markle Jr., explained that their father’s foot had quickly turned from blue to black. Realizing the severity, he rushed Thomas to a nearby hospital, where doctors conducted scans and an ultrasound before making a critical decision.
Thomas Jr. shared, “The doctors said there was no other option. The leg had to be amputated. It was a matter of life or death.”
He added that the next few days will be crucial for Thomas’ recovery. The amputation was performed below the knee due to concerns about dangerous infections like sepsis or gangrene.
The surgery took place in the Philippines, where Thomas and his son have been living since earlier this year.
Meanwhile, People magazine reported that Meghan Markle has reached out to her father following the news of his surgery. Her spokesperson confirmed, “I can confirm she has contacted her father.”
This latest health scare comes after Thomas reportedly suffered a stroke in 2022, which already left him in a fragile state.
Meghan and her father have been estranged since her 2018 wedding to Prince Harry. Thomas did not attend the ceremony, and King Charles ultimately walked Meghan down the aisle.
During a March 2021 interview with Oprah, Meghan explained the reason for their fallout. She expressed deep disappointment after discovering that her father had worked with paparazzi ahead of her wedding and wasn’t honest when she confronted him.
Meghan recalled, “When we called to ask him about the staged photos, he said no. I told him, ‘I just need you to tell me the truth so we can help,’ but that didn’t happen.”
Later that same month, Thomas appeared on Good Morning Britain and admitted he had worked with paparazzi but had denied it when Meghan confronted him. He said he regretted it and had apologized “at least 100 times,” but claimed he never received any response from Meghan or Harry.
This heartbreaking update has once again drawn public attention to their long-complicated father-daughter relationship. As Thomas fights through this critical recovery period, many hope this moment might open the door for reconciliation.
