Arsenal failed to take full advantage at the top of the Premier League table after being held to a frustrating 0-0 draw by Liverpool in a high-profile clash at the Emirates Stadium. The result means the Gunners missed the opportunity to move eight points clear, though they still maintain a six-point cushion over Manchester City.

With Manchester City dropping points in three consecutive matches, Mikel Arteta’s side came into the game knowing a win could significantly strengthen their title push. Instead, Arsenal delivered a flat attacking performance that left home supporters disappointed at full time.

The hosts actually started on the front foot. Bukayo Saka looked lively early on and was involved in several promising moves down the right flank. However, both he and Jurrien Timber struggled to find teammates in dangerous areas, with final balls repeatedly failing to connect.

Liverpool nearly broke the deadlock in the 27th minute through a costly misunderstanding at the back for Arsenal. A loose back pass from William Saliba forced goalkeeper David Raya into a hurried clearance. Conor Bradley pounced on the loose ball and attempted an audacious lob, but the effort clipped the crossbar and bounced away, denying the visitors a shock lead.

That moment turned out to be the clearest chance of the match. From there on, clear-cut opportunities were few and far between. Arsenal, in particular, endured a long attacking drought, failing to register a single shot from the 45th minute until stoppage time in the second half.

Liverpool had their moments from set pieces, with Dominik Szoboszlai sending a free-kick onto the roof of the net, but they too struggled to test the goalkeeper. Arsenal finally showed urgency late on, firing three shots after the fourth official indicated added time. The best of those fell to Gabriel Magalhães, whose effort only found the side netting.

Tempers flared briefly in the closing stages when Gabriel Martinelli became involved in an incident with Conor Bradley, who was later forced off the pitch with a serious-looking knee injury.

Despite seeing their five-game winning streak come to an end, Arsenal remain top of the Premier League standings, six points ahead of Manchester City and Aston Villa. Liverpool stay in fourth place, holding a narrow two-point advantage over the chasing pack.

Match Stats Highlight the Stalemate

This match marked the first goalless draw between Arsenal and Liverpool in the Premier League since August 2015. The contrast with recent history was stark, as the previous 20 league meetings between the two sides had produced 79 goals, averaging nearly four goals per game.

In terms of numbers, the game lacked attacking quality. The combined expected goals stood at just 0.93, with Arsenal recording 0.57 and Liverpool 0.36. Notably, Liverpool failed to register a single shot on target, something that had not happened to them in a Premier League match since March 2010.

Arsenal have now failed to score in only two of their last 32 league games, and both blanks came against Liverpool. The Gunners also remain winless in their last five Premier League meetings with Liverpool when starting the match as league leaders, a trend that could prove costly as the title race intensifies.

As the season enters a decisive phase, Arsenal will be left wondering whether these dropped points could come back to haunt them in the battle for the Premier League crown.
