Ex-Husband Arrested in Shocking Murder of Ohio Dentist and His Wife, Two Young Children Survive

A heartbreaking double homicide case in Ohio has taken a major turn. Police have arrested a man from Illinois in connection with the fatal shooting of his ex-wife and her new husband, an Ohio dentist, whose deaths shocked the local community.

The suspect, Michael David McKee of Chicago, has been charged with two counts of murder in the deaths of Monique Tepe, 39, and Spencer Tepe, 37. Court records from Franklin County show that an arrest warrant was issued on January 10, leading to McKee’s capture later that day in Winnebago County, Illinois.

McKee is currently being held in Illinois and is expected to remain in custody until he is extradited back to Ohio to face charges. At this time, it is unclear whether he has hired an attorney to speak on his behalf.

Children Found Safe Inside the Home

The tragedy deepened after authorities confirmed that the couple’s two young children, both under the age of five, were inside the home at the time of the shooting but were found physically unharmed. The children’s safety has drawn widespread sympathy and concern from the public.

Monique and Spencer Tepe were discovered shot to death inside their home in the Weinland Park neighborhood of Columbus on December 30. Investigators believe the killings occurred sometime between 2 a.m. and 5 a.m. that morning.

Surveillance Footage Leads to Arrest

According to court documents, Columbus homicide detectives identified McKee through neighborhood surveillance video. Police say the footage shows a vehicle arriving shortly before the murders and leaving soon after.

That vehicle was later located in Rockford, Illinois, and investigators believe McKee had possession of it both before and after the killings. On January 5, police released additional security footage showing a person walking through an alley near the couple’s home during the suspected time frame, labeling the individual a person of interest.

Despite the arrest, authorities have not publicly disclosed a motive for the crime.

Missed Work Sparks Welfare Check

Concern first arose when Spencer Tepe failed to show up for work at the dental office where he practiced. Around 9 a.m. on December 30, coworkers contacted Columbus police after repeated attempts to reach both Spencer and Monique went unanswered.

An officer initially conducted a welfare check at the wrong address, according to police body camera footage. Roughly 40 minutes later, friends of the couple went to the correct home and made the devastating discovery.

A Marriage Cut Short

Adding to the tragedy, January 30 would have marked the couple’s fifth wedding anniversary.

“They were extraordinary people whose lives were filled with love, joy, and a deep connection to others,” the Tepe family said in a statement.

The investigation remains ongoing as the community mourns a devastating loss and seeks justice for a family forever changed.
