Apple is once again grabbing attention, and this time the spotlight is on its affordable iPhone lineup. According to the latest leak from a Chinese insider, the upcoming iPhone 17e is expected to bring a significant design and performance upgrade that could make it the most attractive budget iPhone yet.

The report, which has also been discussed by tech outlet MacRumors, suggests that Apple is finally ready to ditch the classic notch on its lower-priced iPhone. Instead, the iPhone 17e is rumored to feature Dynamic Island, a design element previously reserved for higher-end models.

Goodbye Notch, Hello Dynamic Island

If this information turns out to be accurate, the iPhone 17e will mark the end of the notch era for Apple’s budget phones. Dynamic Island not only gives the device a more modern look but also enhances usability by displaying live activities, notifications, and background tasks directly on the screen.

Powered by the New A19 Chip

On the performance side, the iPhone 17e is rumored to run on the Apple A19 processor, the same chip expected to power the standard iPhone 17. However, to keep costs down, Apple may lower the clock speed slightly. Even with this adjustment, users can still expect a noticeable performance boost compared to previous budget models.

Display Remains Familiar

When it comes to the display, major upgrades are unlikely. The iPhone 17e is said to retain a 6.1-inch OLED screen with a 60Hz refresh rate, likely using the same panel found in the iPhone 16 released in 2024. While it may not feel ultra-smooth, the screen quality should remain sharp and vibrant.

MagSafe Support with Cost-Saving Trade-offs

Earlier rumors also point to possible MagSafe support, thanks to a built-in magnetic ring. To balance production costs, Apple may use an older C1 or C1X modem, potentially without the N1 wireless chip. This compromise could help Apple keep the iPhone 17e competitively priced.

Mass production of the device is expected to begin in January, indicating that its official launch may not be far off.

How It Compares to the iPhone 16e

For reference, the current iPhone 16e still features a traditional notch, similar to the iPhone 13 and iPhone 14. It is powered by the Apple A18 chip with a 4-core GPU, one step below the 5-core GPU used in the standard iPhone 16.

With the addition of Dynamic Island and a faster A19 chip, the iPhone 17e could become Apple’s most compelling budget iPhone to date. While it may not offer top-tier display features, the combination of modern design and improved performance could make it a strong choice for users seeking an affordable iPhone with premium touches.
