A major development has emerged in the fatal shooting of a married couple in Weinland Park, Columbus, Ohio. Authorities have now charged a 39-year-old man in connection with the case, bringing a sense of movement toward justice after weeks of uncertainty.
According to Franklin County Municipal Court records, Michael McKee has been charged with two counts of murder in the deaths of Spencer Tepe and Monique Tepe. Court documents confirm that McKee is Monique’s former husband, a detail that has drawn widespread public attention.
Suspect Identified Through Surveillance Footage
Investigators revealed that McKee was identified through neighborhood surveillance videos. The footage reportedly shows a vehicle arriving shortly before the shooting and leaving soon after the incident occurred.
Detectives were able to trace the vehicle and connect it to McKee. The car was later located in Rockford, Illinois, where authorities found evidence confirming that McKee owned the vehicle.
The Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office reported that McKee was taken into custody on Saturday morning. He is scheduled to make his first court appearance on Monday.

Following the arrest, the Tepe family released a heartfelt statement, describing the moment as a critical step toward justice for Spencer and Monique.

How the Tragedy Unfolded
The case dates back to December 30, when Columbus police were called to a home on North 4th Street for a welfare check around 10 a.m. Friends and coworkers had grown increasingly concerned after failing to reach the couple.
Spencer, a dentist who worked at a clinic in Athens, did not show up for work and could not be contacted, which coworkers described as highly unusual. Several 911 calls were made as concern mounted.
Police initially found nothing suspicious outside the home. However, after additional calls reporting that children could be heard inside with no one answering the door, a friend entered the residence and discovered Spencer’s body. Authorities later confirmed that both Spencer and Monique had been shot.
Investigators found spent 9mm shell casings at the scene. No weapon was recovered, and there were no signs of forced entry.
Public Asked to Help Investigation
On January 2, Columbus police asked for the public’s assistance, urging anyone with videos, photos, or other digital evidence to submit them through a dedicated QR code.
The area of interest included Summit Street to North Grant Avenue and East 7th Avenue to East 11th Avenue. The initial timeframe focused on midnight to 9 a.m. on December 30.
