| Assembly of Experts appoints Mojtaba Khamenei as Iran’s new leader after Ali Khamenei was killed during military strikes in Tehran. |
Tehran – Assembly of Experts has announced the appointment of Mojtaba Khamenei as the new leader of Iran. The clerical body responsible for selecting the country’s supreme leadership said the decision was made during an emergency meeting with overwhelming support from its members.
In an official statement released Sunday night, the Assembly of Experts said the appointment was made to prevent a leadership vacuum in the country. Mojtaba Khamenei was introduced as the successor following the death of Iran’s previous leader, Ali Khamenei.
According to reports from Tasnim News Agency, the Assembly held extensive discussions before finalizing the decision. Members reportedly reviewed the political and security situation before agreeing on the new leadership.
The statement also referenced military attacks carried out by the United States and Israel against Iran. The developments were cited as part of the broader context surrounding the leadership change.
Israel had earlier declared that it would pursue whoever replaced Ali Khamenei as Iran’s leader. The statement came amid escalating military tensions in the region.
Ali Khamenei was reported killed on the ninth day of the Iranian month of Esfand during U.S. and Israeli strikes in Tehran. The military operation has now entered its ninth consecutive day.
The appointment of Mojtaba Khamenei marks a new chapter in the leadership of the Islamic Republic of Iran, taking place amid heightened geopolitical tensions across the Middle East.
