Forest Fire Alert: Pontianak Police Chief Inspects Firefighting Equipment and Readiness.

Pontianak – In preparation for the dry season and the increased risk of forest and land fires (karhutla), Pontianak City Police Chief, Commissioner Suyono, S.I.K., S.H., M.H., conducted a direct inspection of the firefighting equipment and readiness of his team. The inspection took place at the Pontianak Police Headquarters on Tuesday (29/07/2025).

This preventive measure aims to ensure that both personnel and equipment are fully prepared to respond quickly and effectively to any potential forest or land fire emergency within the Pontianak jurisdiction.

The inspection was accompanied by key officers from the Pontianak Police, including:

  • Police Operations Head, Commissioner Joko Sutriyatno, S.H.

  • Public Order Unit Head, AKP Samidi

  • Logistics Division Head, AKP Untung Widodo

What Was Inspected?

The inspection covered a wide range of essential tools and equipment, such as:

  • Operational vehicles

  • Fire extinguishing tools

  • Personal protective equipment (PPE)

  • Robin engines

  • Water hoses

  • Safety boots

  • Safety helmets

Commissioner Suyono emphasized that equipment readiness is just as crucial as personnel readiness.

“We’re not just relying on our personnel. We also have to make sure every tool is in good condition and ready to use at any time,” he said.

This proactive approach is part of the police’s broader fire prevention strategy. Having all resources ready ensures a rapid and coordinated response when fires break out, ultimately protecting both the environment and public health from hazardous smoke and pollution.

Commissioner Suyono also urged Pontianak residents to stop the harmful practice of clearing land by burning. He highlighted the importance of community education and the role of local police (Bhabinkamtibmas) in spreading awareness.

“We continue to encourage public education so that people understand the dangers of land burning. Let’s work together to maintain clean air for our own health — especially for our children,” he added.

With this inspection completed, the Pontianak City Police hope to enhance their readiness during the dry season. They aim to ensure a faster response to fire incidents while minimizing environmental damage and safeguarding the health of local communities.
