Apple is reportedly working on a major design upgrade for its upcoming iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max. According to reliable insider Digital Chat Station, the company plans to completely eliminate display cutouts—no notch, no punch-hole, and no more Dynamic Island.

A Truly Clean Display Experience

The highlight of this leak is Apple’s effort to move all Face ID sensors and the front camera under the display. This means users could finally enjoy a truly full-screen experience without any visual distractions at the top.

The iPhone 18 Pro is rumored to feature a 6.27-inch OLED screen, while the Pro Max could sport a larger 6.86-inch OLED. Both displays will use LTPO technology for dynamic refresh rates and will support 1.5K resolution for sharper visuals and improved power efficiency.

Introducing HIAA Technology: Hidden Face ID and Camera

To make this clean design possible, Apple is reportedly using a technology called HIAA (Hole-in-Active-Area). This allows light to pass through specific parts of the display, enabling the camera and Face ID sensors to function while remaining invisible.

What sets this apart is the complexity of Apple’s Face ID system. Unlike regular front cameras, Face ID includes an infrared camera, dot projector, and flood illuminator—all of which are difficult to operate under a display. Apple is said to have already developed working prototypes and is currently testing the new design.

What About the Dynamic Island?

While the Dynamic Island feature was introduced with the iPhone 14 Pro and carried into later models, sources say Apple has been aiming to phase it out since the development of the iPhone 15. With the iPhone 18 lineup expected in 2026, the company may finally be ready to remove it altogether.

What Does This Mean for Users?

If these leaks are accurate, the iPhone 18 Pro could become one of the first truly full-screen smartphones without any visible sensors or cutouts. This would elevate the user experience for watching videos, gaming, and everyday use.

While the concept is still under development and hasn’t been officially confirmed by Apple, the future of iPhone design looks more minimal and futuristic than ever.
