Google has recently rolled out an exciting update to its NotebookLM service, introducing support for over 50 languages in the Audio Overviews feature, which allows text to be transformed into podcast-like audio using artificial intelligence (AI). Previously, this feature was only available in English, but it now supports additional languages such as Russian, Arabic, Hindi, Turkish, and more.

What is Audio Overviews?

The Audio Overviews feature works by converting documents uploaded by users into audio summaries that resemble a podcast format with two hosts. This feature is especially useful for educators or teachers, who can upload materials in various languages, such as scientific papers in Spanish or reports in English. Users will receive an audio summary in their preferred language, making it easier to understand the material being taught.

With this feature, users can access educational content in their native language, breaking down language barriers and providing more opportunities for people to learn and share information.

Output Language Settings

This new feature also comes with an Output Language option in the NotebookLM settings. Users can select the language they prefer for both audio and text responses. This is particularly helpful when creating multilingual content or educational materials that can be accessed by an international audience. The language can be switched at any time, offering more flexibility for users.

However, while this feature is exciting, it’s important to note that NotebookLM is not officially accessible in Russia or regions with Russian IP addresses, so users in those areas may not be able to use this feature just yet.

With the introduction of additional language support in NotebookLM, Google is further solidifying its role in creating technology that bridges language gaps and makes information more accessible. This feature offers great convenience for educators, students, and anyone who needs access to content in multiple languages, making learning more inclusive and easily accessible.
