Inter Milan’s Champions League dream came crashing down after a brutal 5-0 loss to Paris Saint-Germain in the final—but don’t worry, head coach Simone Inzaghi’s job is not in danger.

Despite one of the most painful nights in recent club history, Inter president Giuseppe Marotta confirmed that the club still fully supports Inzaghi. In fact, they’re planning to sit down with him in the coming days to discuss the future, despite rumors linking him with a move to Saudi Arabia.

A Week to Forget for Inter

It’s been a rough stretch for Inter. Just over a week ago, they narrowly missed out on the Serie A title to Napoli on the final day of the season. And now, they’ve suffered the heaviest defeat ever recorded in a Champions League final.

Saturday’s final in Munich saw Inter become just the third team in history to concede five goals in a UCL or European Cup final—something that hadn’t happened since Real Madrid’s 5-3 loss to Benfica in 1962. Simply put, PSG dominated from start to finish, and Inter couldn’t find any answers.

Marotta Apologizes, But Proud of the Journey

Speaking to Sky Sports Italia after the match, Marotta admitted that PSG were the better team and offered a heartfelt apology to Inter fans, especially those who traveled all the way to Germany to support the squad.

“It was a tough night for us. PSG outclassed us in every department. But we still have to recognize the incredible journey this team had,” said Marotta.

Inter had to overcome giants like Bayern Munich and Barcelona just to reach this stage. So even though the final didn’t go their way, their run was nothing short of impressive.

Inzaghi’s Future Not in Doubt

There’s been buzz about Inzaghi being on Al-Hilal’s radar, especially with the Saudi club preparing for the Club World Cup. But Marotta made it clear: Inzaghi isn’t going anywhere—at least not anytime soon.

“We already planned to meet next week. He still has one year left on his contract, and he’s proven over the past four years that he absolutely deserves to be here,” Marotta explained.

So for Inter fans worried about change on the sidelines—rest easy. The club stands behind its coach.

Financial Challenges for Italian Clubs

Marotta also touched on a bigger issue affecting all Italian clubs: the growing financial gap with richer teams. He pointed out that Italy is no longer the "football paradise" it once was. Now, top players often use Serie A as a stepping stone before moving on to higher-paying leagues.

“Clubs like PSG operate with unlimited budgets. We simply can’t compete with the salaries they offer. But that’s not an excuse,” Marotta said. “Italian football is still capable of producing great results, and we got to the final because of the quality of our players and coaches.”

A Painful Loss, But Not the End

Yes, the result stings. Losing 5-0 in a Champions League final is a hard pill to swallow. But let’s not forget how far Inter came this season. They knocked out some of Europe’s biggest clubs and gave fans an unforgettable ride.

Inzaghi’s job is safe, the squad is strong, and there’s still plenty to build on for next season. So chin up, Inter fans—this isn’t the end, it’s just a tough chapter in what could still be a great story.
