JD Vance Warns World Cup 2026 Fans: Don’t Overstay Your Welcome in the US. |
The 2026 FIFA World Cup is just around the corner, and soccer fans from all over the world are getting ready for this huge event. This time, the tournament will be hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico together—making it the biggest World Cup ever with 48 teams competing.
If you’re planning to come to the US to watch the World Cup live, here’s an important heads-up: US Vice President JD Vance gave a friendly but firm reminder to visitors not to overstay their visas during the event.
The 2026 World Cup will be the largest in history, with 104 matches played across North America. Out of those, 60 games will take place in the US—including every match from the quarterfinals onward. This means millions of fans will be traveling to the US to experience the excitement in person.
Vice President Vance said, “Of course, everyone is welcome to come and enjoy this amazing event. We want fans to come, celebrate, and watch the games. But when it’s time to go home, we expect them to do so. Otherwise, they might have to talk to Secretary Noem,” jokingly referring to Kristi Noem, the US Secretary of Homeland Security.
The US Department of Transportation’s Secretary, Sean Duffy, also encouraged visitors to explore the country during the World Cup but reminded them not to stay beyond their visa limits. Cities like Los Angeles, Miami, and New York are ready to host a huge influx of tourists next summer.
The World Cup kicks off on June 11, 2026, in Mexico City before moving to the US. So far, Japan, New Zealand, Iran, Argentina, and the host countries (US, Canada, and Mexico) have qualified.
American fans will be hoping the US Men's National Team (USMNT) performs better on home soil compared to recent tournaments like Copa América 2024 and the Concacaf Nations League. The spotlight will be on coach Mauricio Pochettino and captain Christian Pulisic to lead the team to success.
So, if you’re planning to attend the 2026 World Cup in the US, enjoy the experience but remember to respect visa rules. Celebrate the beautiful game, but don’t overstay your welcome!
