Marc Marquez Breaks Silence on Jorge Martin’s Aprilia Drama: He Must Have His Reasons. |
Marc Marquez has finally spoken up about the hot topic shaking up the MotoGP paddock—Jorge Martin’s sudden decision to leave Aprilia. His comments come just a week after saying he’d hold off until Martin gave his side of the story.
The drama began during the British Grand Prix at Silverstone, where rumors started swirling that Martin wanted to activate a contract clause and walk away from Aprilia early. When asked about it, Marquez kept it cool:
“I want to wait until Martin or his team talks about it, because we don’t really know what’s true or not.”
Soon after, Martin himself confirmed the news—he is planning to exit Aprilia one year before his contract ends.
Marquez Responds at Ducati Event
At a Ducati promotional event in Barcelona on Tuesday, Marquez was asked again about the situation. This time, he gave a bit more insight:
“I’m aware of what’s happening in the MotoGP world, and when I read the news about Jorge Martin, well… I’m sure he has his reasons. He must have his explanations,” Marquez told AS.
“Most importantly, I hope he recovers soon and is back on the track as quickly as possible.”
Marquez Knows What It’s Like to Leave Early
It’s worth noting that Marquez isn’t new to the idea of leaving a contract early. He ended his big-money deal with Honda to join Gresini Ducati in 2024—but as he pointed out, that situation was completely different.
“My situation was totally different. First of all, I was coming off four years filled with injuries. And second, I gave—well, we achieved—six World Championships together with Honda,” Marquez explained.
Despite the split, Marquez and Honda still maintain a friendly relationship.
Sympathy from Marquez, But Not from Everyone
From the way he talks, it’s clear Marquez feels some sympathy for Martin. He didn’t criticize the move and instead acknowledged that riders make tough decisions for their own reasons.
Not everyone shares that opinion though. Ducati teammate Pecco Bagnaia had a much firmer stance. He made it clear that riders should respect the contracts they sign—period.
Bagnaia’s comments were seen by many, including Dorna reporter Jack Appleyard, as a subtle message reinforcing his commitment to Ducati, especially amid surprise rumors that Yamaha was interested in signing him.
Both Bagnaia and Marquez are locked into Ducati factory team contracts through the end of 2026.
What’s Next for Jorge Martin?
Martin’s desire to leave Aprilia has already shaken up the MotoGP rider market. The big rumor? That he’s eyeing a move to Honda. Nothing has been confirmed yet, but his potential departure could trigger a domino effect across the grid.
One thing’s for sure—this drama is far from over, and fans can expect more twists in the coming weeks.
