After years of heartbreak and a painful loss in the 2020 final, Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) has finally made history by winning their first-ever UEFA Champions League trophy—and it was nothing short of spectacular. For captain Marquinhos, the moment was more than just a win—it was an emotional high point of his career.

A Record-Breaking Victory

PSG didn’t just win—they dominated. The French giants crushed Inter Milan 5-0 in the final, setting a new record for the biggest margin of victory in a European Cup/Champions League final.

Desire Doue stole the spotlight with two goals and an assist, helping set up the opening goal by Achraf Hakimi. Then Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Senny Mayulu added two more to seal the emphatic win.

Historic Treble for PSG

This season has been one for the books. With the Champions League title in hand, PSG also completed the treble—having already won Ligue 1 and the Coupe de France. That makes them the first French club ever to achieve such a feat and only the ninth team in Europe to do so.

It took PSG 168 Champions League matches to finally win the trophy—the longest journey for any team before lifting the title.

Marquinhos Reflects on an Emotional Journey

For Marquinhos, who was part of the PSG squad that lost the 2020 final to Bayern Munich, this victory was deeply personal.

“It’s a mix of joy and so many emotions,” he told M6. “I’ve been through so much with this team. I’ve suffered, but I’ve grown.”

He paid tribute to past PSG legends who came close but never managed to bring home the trophy.

“I think about the players who came and went—Thiago Silva, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Edinson Cavani, Angel Di Maria, Lucas Moura—they all deserved this, but didn’t get the chance,” he said.

“We finally did it. This is for all the fans, whether you were at Parc des Princes or supporting us from around the world. I love you all. Let’s celebrate this moment.”

He added, “It’s truly the best day of my life. My family was here to witness it with me. No one believed we could go this far. After 12 years of struggle, we’re finally here. I value this title so much—it means everything.”

Young Stars Shine Bright

Desire Doue became the first player in history to be involved in three goals in a Champions League final (two goals, one assist), solidifying his place as one of PSG’s rising stars.

Even Bradley Barcola, who came off the bench, made his mark by assisting Mayulu’s late goal. After the match, he told Canal+:

“The club has been chasing this for a long time. And this year, we finally did it. I still can’t believe it. It’s a dream come true.”

This Champions League triumph isn’t just a win for PSG—it’s the culmination of years of effort, heartbreak, and growth. From veterans like Marquinhos to breakout stars like Doue and Barcola, every player played a part in making this dream a reality.
