Apple Is Testing New Colors for the Base iPhone 17 Model. |
Apple is reportedly experimenting with two fresh color options for the upcoming iPhone 17 base model: purple and green. This leak comes from well-known insider Majin Bu, who has a solid track record when it comes to revealing accurate Apple-related information. For instance, he was among the first to share that iPadOS 26 would include a macOS-style menu bar — which turned out to be true.
According to Majin Bu, Apple will likely choose just one of the two colors to go into final production, with purple being the stronger candidate at the moment.
For comparison, the current iPhone 16 comes in five colors: ultramarine (blue), turquoise, pink, white, and black. It’s possible that the new color could replace one of these in the iPhone 17 lineup.
What’s New with the iPhone 17?
In terms of upgrades, the iPhone 17 base model isn’t expected to be a dramatic redesign, but it will bring a few solid improvements:
-
Smoother Display
Apple is reportedly bumping up the refresh rate from 60Hz to 120Hz, which would make everyday interactions and animations feel significantly smoother — especially noticeable during scrolling and gaming. -
Sharper Front Camera
The front-facing camera is expected to get a major boost from 12MP to 24MP. This upgrade would be a welcome change for selfie lovers and those who use FaceTime regularly. -
Slightly Bigger Screen
The screen size may increase from 6.1 inches to 6.3 inches — not a huge difference, but enough to offer a bit more visual space.
When Will Apple Launch the iPhone 17?
Apple is likely to unveil the new iPhone 17 lineup in September, continuing its usual release pattern. If you’re planning to upgrade your phone soon, it might be worth waiting to see what the new model has to offer.
Is the iPhone 17 Worth the Wait?
While the iPhone 17 won’t be a major leap from the previous model, it’s still shaping up to be a worthwhile upgrade — especially with the possibility of a fresh new color, a smoother display, and a much-improved front camera.
