iPhone 16 Becomes Best-Selling Smartphone in the World in 2025, Beating Samsung and Other Brands. |
The iPhone 16 is making waves again! From January to March 2025, Apple’s base model iPhone 16 has taken back the #1 spot as the world’s best-selling smartphone, according to a recent report by research firm Counterpoint Research. This marks the first time in two years that Apple has topped the global sales chart.
Even more impressive, Apple secured five spots in the global top 10 smartphone rankings, marking the fifth consecutive first quarter where Apple dominated the charts.
Right behind the iPhone 16, the iPhone 16 Pro Max and iPhone 16 Pro landed in second and third places, respectively. Despite Apple facing challenges in the Chinese market—where subsidies support more affordable models—their flagship devices have consistently driven nearly 50% of all iPhone sales for the past three quarters. Pretty impressive, right?
iPhone 16e Makes a Strong Debut
Another iPhone worth mentioning is the newly released iPhone 16e, which hit the market in February 2025. In its first full month of sales (March), it secured the sixth spot globally. While it’s more expensive than the 2022 iPhone SE, the iPhone 16e boasts improved specs and better features, making it a popular choice. Analysts believe it has a good shot at outperforming its predecessor by the end of the year.
Samsung Holds On, but Faces Pressure
Samsung isn’t sitting quietly either. The Galaxy A16 5G climbed to fifth place, thanks to strong performance in North America and emerging markets. However, the Galaxy S25 Ultra dropped to seventh place, falling behind last year’s S24 Ultra, which had a stronger showing. The main reason? The S25 Ultra was launched later and didn’t have as much time on the shelves during Q1.
Budget Phones on the Rise
There’s a growing interest in affordable smartphones, especially models priced under $100. These budget devices are now the fastest-growing category, taking up around 20% of the global market. Standouts include the Galaxy A06 and Redmi 14C 4G. In fact, the Redmi 14C 4G is the only non-Apple or Samsung device to crack the top 10, with an impressive 43% growth compared to the Redmi 13C 4G.
Premium Phones Still Lead the Way
Despite global economic uncertainty and ongoing trade tensions, analysts believe the most popular smartphones will remain strong in the market. The key? Brands are doubling down on premium devices with feature-rich experiences. Consumers today are more willing to invest in smartphones that offer both performance and longevity.
With the iPhone 16 dominating the charts and other iPhone models not far behind, Apple continues to show that its premium-focused strategy is paying off. On the other hand, the rise of affordable phones proves that there’s a growing demand for value-packed devices at lower price points.
Whether you're team flagship or team budget, 2025 is shaping up to be a dynamic and exciting year for smartphone lovers everywhere.
