West Kalimantan Boosts Immunization Program: Governor Urges Fight Against Health Hoaxes to Protect Children. |
The Governor of West Kalimantan, Drs. H. Ria Norsan, officially kicked off a strategic event focused on strengthening the region’s immunization efforts. The event took place on Thursday, June 12, 2025, at Hotel Dangau in Kubu Raya Regency. The main goal? Prevent the rise of dangerous, preventable diseases in the region.
During his speech, the governor expressed concern over the rising number of cases involving diseases like polio and measles. The reason, he said, is that many children haven’t received their vaccines—largely due to misinformation spreading on social media.
“For example, some posts claim that a polio shot can cause paralysis, when in fact, the vaccine prevents it. These kinds of rumors are misleading and scare people,” he explained.
The governor called on everyone—health workers, communities, and media—to actively correct these hoaxes and make sure immunization programs are truly reaching the people who need them.
“Let’s all work together to stop these hoaxes. We need to check whether our current immunization efforts are strong enough or if more needs to be done,” he added.
In addition to vaccines, the governor also reminded mothers about the importance of good nutrition during pregnancy. Ensuring proper nutrition early on can help prevent stunting and support the healthy development of children.
“When a child gets the right nutrition even before birth, they have a much better chance of being healthy and free from stunting. And with more children vaccinated, the fewer cases of infectious diseases we’ll see,” he said.
He urged parents, especially mothers, to take their children for routine checkups and vaccines at health clinics or local health posts.
“Moms, don’t be afraid to get your children vaccinated. Immunization isn’t something to fear—it’s how we protect our kids from dangerous illnesses like measles, polio, and diphtheria.”
Through this initiative, the West Kalimantan government is reinforcing its commitment to protecting the health of future generations. Combating hoaxes and providing accurate, trusted information is a shared responsibility. Let’s support immunization efforts and help build a healthier, safer future for our children.
