Governor of West Kalimantan Welcomes PGRI Delegation: Proposes “Bunda Guru” and Teacher’s Day 2025 Celebration. |
Pontianak – The Governor of West Kalimantan, Drs. H. Ria Norsan, M.M., M.H, officially received a courtesy visit from the West Kalimantan Provincial Board of the Indonesian Teachers Association (PGRI), led by Chairman Muhammad Firdaus, M.Pd, at the Governor’s Office on Wednesday (2/7/2025).
During the meeting, PGRI proposed the appointment of Hj. Erlina as “Bunda Guru” (Mother of Teachers) of West Kalimantan, a symbolic maternal figure who will be inaugurated by the “Bunda Guru” representatives from each city and regency in the province. The inauguration is expected to be carried out by Ms. Titiek Soeharto, who currently holds the national title of “Bunda Guru”.
In addition, PGRI also requested support for holding the 2025 National Teacher’s Day Ceremony at the West Kalimantan Governor’s Office courtyard in November.
Chairman Muhammad Firdaus expressed appreciation to Governor Ria Norsan for his commitment to improving education, including the recent inauguration of PPPK (Government Employee with Work Agreement) teachers across the province. He noted that this move has allowed more teachers to work optimally at their respective schools.
Governor Ria Norsan welcomed the proposals and emphasized the importance of following official procedures and regulations for all submissions.
“Since Ms. Titiek Soeharto is the National ‘Bunda Guru’ and we both come from military families, I hope she can attend the inauguration in West Kalimantan,” said the Governor.
Regarding the request to use the governor’s office courtyard as the venue for the Teacher’s Day event, Governor Norsan officially approved the idea, encouraging PGRI to submit a formal letter or proposal for processing by the relevant departments.
The Governor also addressed concerns about honorary teachers currently funded by the BOS (School Operational Assistance) program. He noted that future regulations may no longer allow this funding method and pledged to work with PGRI to find a long-term solution.
“We need PGRI to collect accurate data on these teachers so we can find the right solution going forward,” he added.
This meeting marks a promising collaboration between the provincial government and PGRI to support and strengthen the education sector in West Kalimantan.
